Template preview with sample data and one-click reset

Show the template with realistic sample records first, then give the user a fast way to wipe the examples and start clean.

Why this can grow a startup

Most templates fail in the empty state. The buyer cannot tell what the system will feel like once it is populated, so they leave before the product has taught anything. Sample data fixes that, but only if the cleanup cost stays low. A visible reset path keeps the preview useful without trapping the user in someone else's fake rows.

Company example

Airtable shows a visual example and written overview before a template is added, then offers a Restart from scratch action so the sample data can be cleared after the user understands the setup.

When to use it

Use this when Website, Onboarding, Product is relevant to activation, template-led growth, product education and you can run a bounded test with a medium budget.

When not to use it

Do not use it as a substitute for customer evidence, a clear owner, or a measurable stop condition. Local platform rules and market behavior still need checking.

Founder checklist

  1. Read Airtable Support: Using Airtable templates and identify what is directly supported.
  2. Choose one channel context: Website, Onboarding, Product.
  3. Define the test around one observable customer behavior.
  4. Set an owner, evidence window, and stop condition before launch.
